The Nigerian Army has in recent times been criticized for alleged involvement in parties and politics. The Army chief uses the quarterly meetings of it top brass to caution its personnel against what he calls any move that will dent its integrity as the country prepares for the 2019 elections.

LT. Gen. Turkur Buratai said any Nigerian army personnel found or lobbying with politicians will be investigated and sent to Standing Court Martial. Any officer or soldier who wishes to be sympathetic to a political, religious or ethnic group should voluntarily retire from Nigerian Army. 

AIT correspondent said, another issue bordering the Army High Command is the number of emergence security threat in Nigeria and how to intensify responses.

Gen. Buratai said issues of murder and other serious crimes perpetrated by ethnic and local malicious criminals must be dealt with decisively. Commanders would be held responsible for any lapses arising from actions or inactions.

The Army Chief also launched electronic payment system to ease the disbursement of operational allowances for the troops spread over the country.

In the months ahead, the service hopes to build on its research and development effort, civil military relation and welfare of troops.
